I went looking for this post just now and I couldn't find it. It turns out I wasn't looking far enough back. I can't believe how fast time goes, especially around the holidays.

Anyway, I'm feeling particularly homey what with the 2 feet of snow outside and I promised a photo of my own picture rail so here it is...

The brown wood frame was a gift from my brother. He made it in his wood shop and I put a black and white of me and my nephew in it = love.

From left to right the other pictures are... our Save-the-Date, a painting from a street sale in Paris, a painting from the hubs, wedding photos, a Valentine's Day card, and a "bienvenue" plaque from Anthropologie.

By the by, it turns out the iPhone 4 camera isn't any better than the iPhone 3GS. Wonders never cease. Good thing it only cost me .97 cents!

Happy Friday! Enjoy the snow!

Since I've been so sartorially uninspired this December, between the crushing expectations of buying meaningful presents and the crushing expectations of the end of the world, I present the few bright spots I came across.

Just saved this image in 3 inspiration folders, "Style", "Home", and "DIY" because of the way the photos are hung on the back wall.

It looks like she took some ribbon and tied it in a bow and hung the frames from that. Super cute idea!

Pink is either wearing this blazer or Zara has created the best knockoff I have ever seen in my entire life and they deserve to be commended. Either way, I tried this on months ago and it is amazing. I didn't get it because I am a picky asshole and the front seam on the left lapel kept showing everytime I moved...

I know.

Happy Friday everybody!

And just in case you were wondering, I'm wearing a cardigan from Forever 21 who, by the way, has the best cableknit sweaters this season hands down, which let's face it, is any Irishman's dream come true.

And continuing the tradition of absolutely ridiculous, amazing, DIY ideas...

If you see me wrapped in this scarf at your local Starbucks, don't judge.

Just saw this lovely on Stockholm Streetstyle and what struck me was the shape of her heel because I just saw something similar at Nine West yesterday...

Do you see how the heel starts out slightly thinner are the top and widens toward the bottom? It gives off a feeling of 50's sophistication without being too obvious. It also keeps a sturdy heel from looking too clunky and distracting from a more feminine outfit like a pencil skirt and prim sweater. Pair it with some "new arrivals from J.Crew"... one of my favorite statements in all the world.

September's inspiration was all about the transition jacket. Autumn is a lot like a blind date. You can never really tell what it's going to be like or how long it's going to last. The transition coat is key for unpredictable weather in all shapes and sizes. For example... say you were to have a hurricane and a nor'easter in the same week... for example. Some talking points...

1. The Leather Bomber (keeps out wind and rain)

2. The Lightweight Blazer (acts as a cardigan)

3. The Coatigan (heavier and warmer coat/cardigan)

Still not advocating wire hangers but the black, metal rack appeals to me.

See?

And again.

.. of Hair Inspiration

After taking a brief break to remind you that not only do we now live in the greatest country on earth but we also have the greatest President... we return to the hair saga.

On to style!

So we've all received the Save-the-Dates. Not mine...

My brother's! T- 188 days to decide on a hair style!

There's the braided route.

There's the whole easy/breezy/beautiful/cover girl route. But, with no access to a hairstylist this is just not going to happen I'm sorry.

Then there's what's actually going to happen. The same thing that happened at my oldest brother's wedding. The bun!

I am willing to make the effort of putting a pin in it. Like this one maybe...

This is going to be happening for awhile so get used to it... or move to Canada like I planned to do if things went horribly wrong.

.. of Hair Inspiration

I finally bit the proverbial bullet (thank you spell check for telling me I can't spell proverbial) and dyed my hair at home. See what had happened was... I was about to leave for my brother's house in CA to see ma babies, er his babies, yeah... anyway I knew there would be tons of pictures. And I knew these pictures would be shown to their first dates, at family reunions, pretty much anytime they are being assholes I can pull out this sweet innocent, new baby smell photo and say...

"Look. Look at how SWEET you WERE. So what the hell are you doing right now?!

And I knew my mouse brown hair wasn't going to age well. So I bottle dyed it and turned it purple. Correction: I didn't have enough so I dyed the top layer purple and left the rest alone.

This is my way of telling you I'm going to get my hair professionally dyed for my birthday.

The question is which red is "red". Since hair color naturally fades as we age the standard advice is to bring along a photo of yourself as a child if you're looking for natural looking color. There are several problems with that.

1. I am so old that all of the photos from my childhood are somehow sepia toned.

2. This is what I looked like as a child. I had apparently already found the polyester pant section of K-Mart that grandmothers are so fond of and I liked to pose with eggs in my hand so as to say, "as soon as I can choose my own pants I'm gonna take the world by the eggs and sqqqquuuueeeeze until it cracks."
