Home porn...

I've been obsessed with this "closet" for awhile now for several reasons but mainly because it appears to occupy an entire room. Previously seen here...

Other things I find fascinating;

1. The changing furniture. I suppose when your closet occupies an entire room you do have the opportunity to switch up the furnishings from time to time. I think the seating in the center is the best way to go.

2. The shoe storage. It never grows or shrinks and I have the same problem. I'm finding it impossible to minimize the space my shoe closet takes from a room. There's just no way to squish them. They don't squish! This is not a sweater we're talking about. I can't stick them in a space-bag and call it a day. Therefore my excessive shoe storage is not my fault.

3. This is another example of light walls with dark wood floors and the rug on a rug concept which I've been a big believer in for a long time.

I know what you're thinking... these are a risk. But one I am willing to take. I love that the last gray stripe on the toe goes all the way onto the sole. Love is in the details.

Some other brogues I'm coveting...

Just as I find a jelly tote I can get behind that won't make me look like a 5 year old, I find out its going to snow again next Friday. Oh well, I'll be dressed for summer if only in my house.

Go half way with the tote or fully commit with these bad boys...

Orange handbags abound at New York Fashion Week...

I was especially excited to see this Rebecca Minkoff throwback! I bought myself this clutch in alligator, lizard, ostrich? embossed black leather for my birthday around, oh, 2008, 2009? Looove seeing something brought out of the trenches of someone's closet. Sometimes the new thing isn't always the best thing.

Having said that... really want this bag. I'm always hesitant to wear orange of course due to a wardrobe that consists of mostly black and the dreaded Halloween factor. Let's be honest, for that kind of money I'd probably opt for, you guessed it, black! Designers and retailers know this too which is why most of the bags seen above also come in black. But, hey, it's almost Spring. Experiment a little. Besides, several exceptions can be made for the Rebecca Minkoff Collection Allie.

Closing in on my 30's *shiver* I've been feeling like I need to focus as much energy on the rest of my home as I do on my closet. So I was bored last night and... somethin' happened. I went on a mad painting spree. I base-coated all of my formerly natural wood toned doors and trim in white. Second coat required but wow what a difference. I've been reading about the impact of black trim on an interior but I made the mistake of painting my kitchen red once and that was the end of my foray into bold color. SO gray walls, newly white trim, and now to cover my white tile floors in dark gray carpet tiles. Wish me luck! Will post when my painting job looks less like a 5 year-old with insomnia and more like a professional did it. Three cheers for grown-up apartments!

Remember the coatigan? Not quite coat, not quite cardigan. Not quite outerwear, not quite innerwear?

It was the fashion industry's response to the winter that wasn't and last night it was renamed by my mother...

I love everything that's happening here.

Slicked, neat hair - check
Studded collar - check
Pea coat - check (man in uniform right ladies? *wink*)

And the short pant trend. I think this would really work on the boyf. His response? If you buy it I'll wear it. Uh, is he giving me license to shop?? It's a plan Stan*.

*disclaimer. Name changed to preserve the privacy of the sartorially lazy.

I asked myself during New York Fashion Week if I should be taking my own streetstyle photos since I do technically live in NY. Then, I saw this...

I've decided to stick with a firm "no" on that one.

As I was flipping through my daily blog reading yesterday I came across a post of a woman in mostly black with a pair of skinny jeans and a plain baseball cap, hair down, pointy toed heels. Simple. Elegant. Sophisticated. All of these things.

But, in the comment section, which I never read on other people's blogs because some people have entirely too much time on their hands and use it to insult the work of others, someone said essentially, "I just don't get it! What is so special here. She looks just plain. I'm not impressed."

I wanted to jump up and down and scream at this person but there were other people in the room so that would be extra weird of me.

What is so special?! The single most difficult thing to do in any arena is to pair down an idea to its simplest form. To extract the miscellaneous and extraneous and boil an idea down to its essential thought nugget is incredibly time-consuming and intense.

Have you ever tried to write a mission statement for a business plan?

A cover letter?

A recommendation?

A text!

A blog post?!

Everyone knows Coco Chanel's famous saying that before she leaves the house she takes one thing off. There is some debate as to whether she actually said this but even if she didn't its an interesting idea mostly because its not referring to an item of clothing or an accessory. I believe one should remove at least 1 idea or concept before they leave the house.

Maybe your last idea while in your closet was to throw on some multi-layered chunky necklaces but your over-accessorized ass is wearing a watch, bracelet, and rings. Take the necklaces off eliminating the concept of layered jewelry.

Maybe you tucked your skinnies into your ankle boots then at the last minute half-tucked your buttondown, untuck your denim removing the concept/trend from your outfit thus getting closer to your essential idea.

Anyway, my point, if I have a point at all which I definitely don't, is that this woman...

looks amazing. She has paired her outfit down to its simplest form. Imagine the same woman with her hair down, wearing a chunky men's watch, layered bracelets, this season's YSL chunky rings on at least 2 fingers, and a metallic belt with a sequin shirt. Like any great artist, while getting dressed one must know when to stop getting dressed.

She's not even carrying a bag! Just a phone! I mean... perfection. Simplified.

If that made ANY sense let me know!
